• Tour the facilities (how does it make you feel, is it comforting)
• Interview the staff that will be working with you (how do you think you will be served)
• Ask for a detailed description of costs based on a funeral plan (compare apples to apples)
• Ask what additional services are available or included in the service costs
• Compare  the same merchandise at each firm
• Base your final decision on where you think you will receive the best value

The funeral event is a one-time event.  You do not get second chances, there are no warranties and there are no returns.  It is a major event that happens to every one of us and like any major event requires time and advance planning
